SBI NE CIRCLE CHESS COMPETITION 2012 Local Implementation Committee of State Bank of India organised the SBI NE Circle Chess Competition 2012 at Guwahati on Jan 21 and 22, 2012. The tournament was won by former Assam champion Mr Purnananda Buragohain of SBI, Manja Tinali Branch with full 7 points while Mr Imtiaz Habeeb of SBI, Tezu Branch came 2nd with 6 points. Mr Sudeep Kr. Chakravorty of Hijuguri br, Mr Subhankar Das of Dhakeajuli Br, Mr Amal Kr. Saha of LHO, Ghy Br, Mr Manoj Kaman of Zonal Office, MPST, Ghy, Mr Sanjeev Ranjan Sahay of LHO, Ghy, Mr Manoranjan Basumatary of New Ghy Br, Mr Rameswar Das of Zonal Office, CPPC Ghy and Mr Abhishek Kumar of Dispur Branch got 3rd to 10th positions in that order.
A total of 52 players took part in the competition. Mr Lakshyadhar Deka was the Tournament Director. M.Arun Singh acted as Chief Arbiter while Th Bipin Singh assisted as Arbiter. View the FINAL RANKING

Late Brahmadutta Sarma Bordoloi Guwahati Chess Championship-2011 Guwahati Chess Association organised its selection tournament (Late Brahmadutta Sarma Bordoloi Guwahati Chess Championship-2011) from July 4 to 7, 2011 at the Down Town Conference Hall, G.S.Road. The events covered were (winners within brackets) Under-7 (Manthan Kashyap Dutta, Axel Public School), Under-9 (Prithwis Das, Holy Home), Under-11 (Bidisha Sarma (1377), Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Rajgarh), Under-13 (Dhanjit Deka, MVM IV Barsajai), Under-15 (Kaustav Kashyap Das, Shrimanta Shankar Academy), Under-17 (Biswajyoti Das, K.V. Khanapara), Under-19 Boys (Indranil Talukdar, Asom Jatiya Bidyalay), Under-19 Girls (Shivangini Bhattacharyya, DPS, Guwahati), Women (Mrs.Kunjalata Das) and Veterans (Mr. Sankar Sarma (1654)). Altogether 87 players took part. The Technical team members that conducted the tournament are Mr Anil Kr Mishra (Tournament Director), Mr Sankar Sarma (Chief Arbiter) assisted by Mr Mrinal Kakati, Th.Bipin Singh, Chiraranjan Bhuyan, Satyabrat Handique and Azad Hussain as Arbiters. Moserbaer GTC School Chess Championship 2011 Contributed by : Biswajit Bharadwaj The "Moserbaer GTC School Chess Championship 2011" organised by GTC CHESS FOUNDATION came to an end on 13 July 2011. Guwahati Town Club (GTC), a premier Footbal club of north east India, is all set to work for the cause of chess in the region. GTC CHESS FOUNDATION is the result of this dream of Guwahati Town Club. However, the tournament attracted a large number of players from different schools of Assam. The best school was presented with a cheque of Rs 10,000 and the "BEST SCHOOL" TROPHY and the School with the maximum number of participation was presented with a cheque of Rs 5000 and the "BEST PARTICIPATING SCHOOL" TROPHY. While the top 5 winner were preesnted with cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 4000, Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 respectively. The Top three players in the each of the under 7, 9, 11,13 and 15 age group categories were awarded with Medals and gift hampers. Also the top three girl participant were awarded medal and gift hampers too. The youngest participant of the event was awarded with a trophy and gift hamper. Moreover the top 5 winners in this tournament has also qualified for a free advance level coaching under renowned International Master and former Commonwealth Chess Champion Mr Atanu Lahiri of West Bengal who is also the chief visiting coach of GTC Chess Foundation.

23rd P.C. Borooah Children?s Chess-2011
Contributed by : Pranab Kr Nath The 23rd P.C. Borooah Children?s Chess-2011 was held at Shilpgram, Panjabari, Guwahati from July 14 to 17 July 2011 organised by P.C. Borooah Chess Academy with Pranab Kr Nath as Tournament Director, Bikash Ranjan Bhuyan as Chief Arbiter and assisted by M. Arun singh National Arbiter, Th. Bipin Singha and Chiraranjan Bhuyan as Arbiters. Dipu Pradhan of St. Peter?s School, Nazira and Rishideep Bordoloi of Delhi Public School, Duliajan won the title of Pawn and Bishop group respectively in 23rd P.C. Borooah Children?s Chess-2011. Dipu Scored 5.5 points from 7 round. Simran Ahmed clinched second position. She also scored 5.5 points but had to content with second position in the basis of tie-break score. Prasurjya Das of Army Public School, Divyanga Spondon Baruah of DPS, Duliajan and Satabdajit S. Baruah of Mangaldai Maharishi Vidya Mandir also scored 5.5 points but declared 3rd 4th and 5th respectively on the basis of tie-break score. In Bishop group Rishideep scored 6.5 points to won the title. Kaustav Kashyap Das of Srimanta Shankar Academy scored 5.5 points and clinched second position. Mahasweta Kumar, Chiranjeet Boro and Debanga kaushik Bhattacharrya also scored 5.5 but declared 3rd, 4th, and 5th on the basis of their tie-break score. Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapra Clinched the Best School title with 25 points.
